Millburn Township Community Garden

In 1975 the club created a Community Garden for township residents on land owned by the Neighborhood Association of Taylor Street. The Club oversees the management and daily operation of the 87 plots. Town residents enjoy growing fruits, vegetables and flowers and the camaraderie of fellow gardeners. It is the first community garden accepted into The Garden Club of America Collection in the Archives of American Gardens, Smithsonian Institution.

Wallbridge Rose Garden in Millburn's Taylor Park

The Wallbridge Rose Garden is located at the entrance to Millburn Township's Taylor Park. With a gift from a generous member and her husband in 1979, a gazebo and four-quadrant rose garden was created. Since that time, the club has maintained and enhanced the rose beds, along with many of the perimeter plantings, including the installation of the sprinkler system. The club's ongoing spring, summer, and fall commitment to the garden includes pruning, weeding, replacing diseased/dead plantings, and general clean-up. The club completed documentation of the Wallbridge Rose Garden for the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Gardens in 2010.

Short Hills Train Station window boxes

Club members fill the twelve window boxes with a variety of seasonal greens in early December and then, again, with colorful flowers in early May for the enjoyment of Millburn/Short Hills Township residents.

Thomas Edison Greenhouse at Llewellyn Park

This National Historical Park project was pioneered by the Garden Club of the Oranges which merged with The Short Hills Garden Club in 2021. Members of The Short Hills Garden Club continue to help maintain and preserve the plantings in the greenhouse as they would have been when the family of Thomas Edison lived there. The greenhouse may be open to the public as part of the tour of Edison's Glenmont estate in Llewellyn Park.

Christmas Wreaths for local volunteer and community organizations

Club members meet in early December to create wreaths from a variety of holiday greens. The wreaths are distributed to various volunteer organizations throughout the Community including Greenwood Gardens, the Millburn Community Garden, Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, Millburn Library, Neighborhood House, Parsil House, New Eyes for the Needy, and Christ Church.

Special Arrangements for Atlantic Health Home Care and Hospice

Club members meet throughout the year to create small, seasonal table arrangements of greens and flowers which are given to Atlantic Health Home Care & Hospice for distribution to their patients.
